Carolyn Mead is a photographer based in Strafford, Pennsylvania. Following a career in law, she has returned to an early love of photography to explore her creativity in retirement. Having no formal training in photography, she has relied on Leonardo da Vinci’s theory that “Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets” in exploring and refining her photographic pursuits.

She was originally drawn to street photography after seeing a Henri Cartier Bresson exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art on a high school field trip. The pursuit of capturing ordinary moments in people’s lives provided a whole new way of experiencing and connecting to the world. That interest in memorializing mundane fragments of life has evolved to trying to incorporate the traditional tenets of light, shadow, and composition to elevate her photographs, of both people and objects, to a simplistic portrayal of fine art.
